The Maritime Training Academy has announced that Ian Hornsby, director of Hub Ware Ltd has been chosen to become the new course director for the Diploma in Superyacht Refit, commencing 1st October 2015.
Ian who originally trained in naval architecture later steered his career towards captaining yachts around the world. After fifteen years in command and managing several new builds and refits for private owners, he founded Hub Ware Ltd (formerly Techman) in 1998.
Ian commented, “A yacht gets built just once… but it will go through many refits during its operational life. Understanding the whole refit process with captains, crews and managers to optimise value for the owner; this diploma aims to provide the skills you need to achieve exactly that. The modules will both broaden your technical knowledge, and increase awareness of the vital multi-way dialogue needed to successfully run such complex projects. Good luck, as you extend your career in yachting”.
The 'Diploma in Superyacht Refit' provides an understanding of each stage of the refit process, aiming to prepare delegates for what to expect whilst in the yard. Consisting of 10 modules, the syllabus includes basic law and contract law, project management and documentation along with other topics such as change orders, refit process, accountancy and project completion.
Gemma Humphreys of the Maritime Training Academy said, “It’s fantastic to have Ian on board with us as course director for our upcoming Diploma in Superyacht Refit. As an existing author with the academy, we’ve known Ian for some time and we value his expertise greatly. He’s an excellent choice and we’re thrilled he’s accepted the role.”
The Diploma in Superyacht Refit commences 1st October and enrolment’s now open.
