Marinas owned by the Dogus Group, D-Marin Mandalina and D-Marin Dalmacija in Croatia, have been chosen to host the TP52 Super Series, one of the world’s most prestigious sailing regattas. The regatta at Mandalina will commence on the 23rd May, and at Dalmacija on the 20th June.
Renowned for being held only in elite international destinations, organisers are convinced that both marinas offer the facilities and all-round experience necessary to accommodate the heralded competition.
The marinas, located in Šibenik and Zadar respectively, will welcome leading sailors from across the globe, including sporting icons Sir Ben Ainslie and Robert Scheidt.
Around 500 participants from more than 20 countries will descend on Croatia for the event, with 13 teams made up of Olympic champions and winners of both the America’s Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race set to do battle on the picturesque Adriatic Sea.
The TP52 boats will be manned by owners and passionate sailors, including Prada Group’s CEO Patrizio Bertelli and Amway’s president Doug DeVos.
Burak Baykan, D-Marin Group’s CEO, commented, “This will be the biggest nautical event of the year and, alongside top athletes, it will attract a number of renowned businesspeople to Croatia. We are extremely proud and happy that D-Marin has been given the opportunity to host such an important sports and tourism event.
“We believe this will greatly contribute to the tourist promotion of not only Šibenik and Zadar but also Croatia.”
Sailing legend Sir Ben Ainslie, the most successful Olympic sailing champion of all time, has outlined his anticipation for the event.
“I’ve never been to Croatia, but we are excited about the event in Šibenik and Zadar. The Adriatic Sea is quite picturesque, and it will be a wonderful sailing venue. Obviously, I’m also hoping for a good result,” he noted.
Scheidt, who has won five Olympic medals during his career, voiced the same excitement ahead of the competition.
“The goal is to win at regattas, perhaps even at this regatta in Croatia. I’ve been to Split twice now, it’s a fantastic country. Hopefully, I’ll be able to experience more than just the sea in Šibenik and Zadar,” he concluded.
The TP52 Super Series will take place in Šibenik from 23rd to 27th of May, and Zadar from 20th to 24th of June.
