Damen has announced a new 55.5-metre (182-foot) adventure vessel called Power Play. Currently under construction for delivery in summer 2018, Power Play will be the sixth YS 5009 design from the Damen Yacht Support series.
Like her sister vessels, Ad-Vantage, Axis and Shadow, Power Play has been configured for a blend of adventure and superyacht-support functions. New features include a 50-square-metre adventure-dive centre aft, more autonomy and facilities for operating in zero-discharge zones, such as marine nature reserves.
Mark Vermeulen, product manager at Damen, said, “It’s inspiring to see how a new generation of owners is driving this market. It’s very dynamic; it’s not the conventional thinking about luxury yachting.
“Our clients have fantastic ideas for diving, aircraft, luxury toys and serious boats. They are planning adventures of a lifetime and even getting involved in underwater exploration, science, filmmaking or racing yacht events. As a shipbuilder, it’s exciting to be a part of making their ideas a reality.”
Power Play accommodates up to six guests in three suites, making her suitable for short breaks away from the mother yacht, or in her position as a support vessel. She features a sun deck and main-deck lounge with panoramic views.
With a gross tonnage of 489, she still offers high-support capabilities, including 12-tonne deck crane and stern A-frame fittings for the efficient launch and retrieval of large equipment, like submersibles.
Power Play offers top speeds of more than 20 knots, with seven crew and accommodation for an additional crew of four staff, pilots, security or guides.
