Dilbar wins “Motor Yacht of the Year 2017”

The World Superyacht Awards, organised by Boat International Media, took place at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence over the weekend, to celebrate the best in yachting.

Lürssen’s 156m M/Y Dilbar was selected from a line up of nine yachts to win the title of “Motor Yacht of the Year 2017” for her “outstanding design”; described by judges to be “one of the most complex and challenging yachts to be built” and “the most spectacular yacht they had ever seen and a clear winner for this prestigious award.”

With exteriors by Lürssen and interiors by Winch Design, Dilbar is the largest yacht in the world by gross tonnage. Winch Design said of her interiors, “Dilbar provides spaces in the interior which have never been seen on a yacht before. This includes an indoor pool which holds a stunning 180m3 of water and is the largest pool to have been built on a yacht.”

In a recent statement, Lürssen Yachts explained, “The jewel in the crown of the Yachting Awards is the “Motor Yacht of the Year” award, which recognises the very best motor yacht delivered in 2016. It is selected from all of the award winners in the motor yacht categories by a panel of esteemed judges.

“Lürssen’s superyacht Dilbar was named Motor Yacht of the Year 2017 after the judges were dazzled by her outstanding design.”

With a gross tonnage of 15,917T, Dilbar was the only vessel to qualify in the “Displacement Yachts of Above 3,000GT” class. As per the ceremony’s rules, she was therefore placed into the category below, but when it came to judging, the panel decided that it was impossible to fairly decide a winner for this class when Dilbar was seven times larger in terms of Gross Tonnage than the next largest yacht. She therefore also collected the award for “Displacement Motoryacht 3,000GT and Above”.

Other winners included Sybaris as “Sailing Yacht of the Year 2017”, M/Y Glaze for the “Voyager’s Award”, and M/Y Narvalo was awarded the “Judges’ Special Award for Quality & Value”.
