Teams of Eco Angels, dressed in pink, will tour the Monaco Yacht Show this year with a zero waste message as well as to help clean-up efforts around the port.
‘Eco Angel’ is a concept created by Kate Powers, co-founder of the restaurant STARS’N’BARS in Monaco. A dedicated environmentalist, Powers organises unofficial ‘teams’ of volunteers after major events on the port—including the Grand Prix and the yacht show—supporting Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (the group in charge of waste management in Monaco) in picking up plastic debris before it falls into the port.
The Eco Angels is now the umbrella name for the volunteers who join Powers in her endeavour to reduce pollution in the port of Monaco.
This week, the Eco Angels will again visit each of the nearly 600 show exhibitors and deliver reusable water bottles to reduce the use of throwaway plastic water bottles and eco-friendly portable pocket ashtrays provided by the Mairie de Monaco.
During the show, STARS'N'BARS staff will wear Eco Angel t-shirts generously provided by Yachting Pages Media Group—who also donated the reusable bottles—and will create communications tools to spread the message across the four days. This will include digital press releases, advertising on English-speaking Riviera Radio, as well as messages on the 25 television screens in the restaurant and in the digital menu by BOOKVIDEO.
Visitors and exhibitors are guaranteed to see Powers and her team pop up at locations throughout the show, reminding everyone that by 2050 the oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weight.
On Sunday 29th September, Eco Angel volunteers including students from the International School of Monaco, will pick up litter on the port from 15:00-17:30, using special eco-friendly trash bags provided by the Monaco Port Authority.
