Energy Observer fitted with larger solar panels before four-year expedition

Energy Observer is the very first superyacht to rely solely on renewable energy resources, with zero polluting emissions and zero fine particles. She is able to convert seawater into hydrogen using an on-board hydrogen production system.

She will be the only vessel to ever reach the Arctic fossil fuel free, with the first 100% self sufficient floating smart grid.

Since Yachting Pages last reported on this 30-metre (98-foot) sailing beauty, she has had many a refit, and now is almost completely covered with solar panels.

During 2019, Energy Observer was refitted with larger solar panels to optimise energy output. Extra panels totalling 36.8m2 were added to the existing 165m2 for 5.6Kv of power resulting in a total surface area of 202m2. This means Energy Observer will have a maximum power of 34kWp (Kilowatt ‘peak’).

In her four-year expedition, Energy Observer will cover over 20,000 miles whilst crossing three oceans. Her odyssey is bound for Tokyo and then California.
