Fiera Milano announce details of new yachting event ‘Versilia Yachting Rendezvous’

Organisers Fiera Milano have announced they will host the first edition of the Versilia Yachting Rendezvous, in the docks of Viareggio and around the territory of Tuscany from the 11th to the 14th of May. The international event will showcase high-end products of the nautical industry and aims to raise awareness of Tuscany’s contributions to the luxury yachting industry.

Organisers from Fiera Milano, along with support from Nautica Italiana and the Tuscan Nautical Ports District, gathered on the 10th of March in Viareggio to announce the plans for the event. The mayor of Viareggio, Giorgio Del Ghingaro, and the president of the Tuscan Regional Authority, Enrico Rossi, spoke at the presentation.

The docks of Viareggio will be the heart of the event, where around 100 medium and large vessels will come together in the 50,000 square metres of water. Used as an open air factory, the area was the original centre of the Tuscan nautical district. The event will welcome visitors, nautical enthusiasts and professionals for four days at the opening of the 2017 nautical season.

Vincenzo Poerio, president of the Distretto della Nautica e della Portualità Toscana, spoke at the event announcement, “Growth is tangible: the market for yachts above 50 metres recorded a 6% increase last year. This trend involves Viareggio directly, as a significant part of the overall turnover from mega yachts comes from here, thanks to the presence of a number of international super brands, and more than 1400 businesses. Out of about 400 vessels, about 100 were built by boatyards located in Viareggio: this means 25% of the international total.”

Each day will have its own theme: design will be the theme on Thursday 11th May, gastronomic excellence on Friday 12th, art will be the talking point on Saturday 13th, and finally, fashion will be discussed on Sunday 14th May.

At the announcement, Enrico Rossi, president of the Tuscan Regional Authority said, “In our region, there are 15,000 workers, more than a third of the Italian total, employed by 2,900 businesses active throughout the production chain, from building, to refitting, to services, to tourism. Turnover, at 1.5 billion Euro, represents 45% of the Italian turnover in the sector. A fourth of all megayachts sailing the seas around the world are built in Tuscany.”

The first edition of the Versilia Yachting Rendezvous will take place in the dock in Viareggio from 11 to 14 May. Visitors are welcome Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 9:30pm and on Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
