Flying Flipper and RED Yacht Design’s Superfly GT 42 to debut at Cannes

Flying Flipper has released a concept for the Superfly GT 42, which it has dubbed “the first real superboat”. Made in collaboration with RED Yacht Design, the motorboat will premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2017.

The 13m vessel combines a family leisure craft with a high-quality drive racing boat, utilising modern technology and Scandinavian design.

Flying Flipper announced in a press release, “Superfly GT 42 is a unique fusion of power, elegance and utility that pushes the boundaries of sports driving pleasure. We worked closely with award winning RED Yacht Design to create a boat that looks like nothing else out there, both for the exterior and the interior.”

According to Flying Flipper, the motorboat uses an upgraded version of its legendary air stepped racing hull. Designed and invented by Flying Flipper’s boat designer and race driver Sigurd Isacsson, the air-stepped racing hull has been developed and improved by RED Yacht Design for this latest model.

The new Superfly GT 42 uses lightweight carbon for high strength and low weight. She features an automatic glass hard top, and a U-shaped dashboard that sweeps around the driver, in order to optimise the driver experience.

A combination of modern power solutions are available, from a double Mercury 400 HP up to triple Seven Marine 627 HP, giving 1881HP on the stern. A hybrid version is also available with two outboard engines and a Torqueedo electric motor in the centre. The hybrid’s slow cruise function allows cruising with no pollution or sound, activated by tilting up the two outboard engines and starting the electric engine.

The vessel features a forward cabin and aft cabin, as Flying Flipper aimed to create a social boat with large relaxation areas. The saloon contains a spacious living area combined with a dinner table and a full-size high tech kitchen. In the cockpit, the U-shaped sofa transforms into forward-facing seats designed for higher speeds.
