Phuket-based crew training firm Galileo Maritime Academy has announced plans to further expand its course offerings throughout 2018, following the Maritime Coastguard Agency’s decision earlier this year to extend its accreditation of Galileo’s facilities for a further five years.
The decision by the MCA ensures Galileo will currently remain the only MCA-approved maritime training centre in the Asia-Pacific region.
The training firm has also secured approval for ten new advanced seafarer courses, and will be expanding its premises through a partnership with Yacht Haven Marina, the largest superyacht marina in Asia, to invest in a new facility campus. The site will include a fire-fighting school, deep-water survival pool, school of marine engineering and a rescue boats training centre.
Part of the company’s recent success has come from a trend of crew from countries further afield training in Thailand; Galileo reports increases in students from the UK, Scandinavia, Russia, Turkey, and many other European countries.
