General Coating: Masters of the art of multi-tasking

General Coating GmbH, an interior and exterior yacht finishing company, has just announced the completion of a 50m superyacht in a Croatian shipyard.

George Balmforth, assistant manager at General Coating spoke to Yachting Pages, explaining, “The project involved re-fairing the superstructure and a complete refinishing of the hull, waterline and all deck housing and fixed furniture. The owner was extremely happy with the finish, and we intend to uphold the relationship both with the shipyard and client for future refit seasons.”

George went on to say that General Coating is currently closing a 118m superyacht refinishing project in a Northern German shipyard. He said, “Our task was to complete all underwater, boot top, hull, superstructure, mast and fixed furniture areas in the allocated time schedule.

“We also carried out various refinishing work in the interior of the vessel. The system used was Jotun, and the result and quality of the finish speaks for itself.”

Not content with working on two superyacht projects, General Coating has recently acquired a brand new set of offices and workshop in South Hamburg, strategically located for easy access between various shipyards and road connections.

The workshop consists of a 700 m2 storage and work facilities. They are currently carrying out large amounts of refurbishment works, which will include the installation of a blasting and spray cabin for future projects, small pieces and fittings. Other new investments include a new fleet of General Coating buses and a forklift.

George also revealed to Yachting Pages that General Coatings is in the planning stages of another two up and coming projects, as well as a potential new build. He added, “We are looking positively towards the future and are planning strategic partnerships with a variety of shipyards.”
