Yachting Pages has put several of the leading safety cases (and other associated products) to the test. The objective: to ascertain how each product performs and determine which one is best equipped to safely contain a lithium battery-induced fire.
Swiss audio-visual (AV) specialist Genesis Technologies Marine has revealed the results of its recent case study, which shows that in comparison to one of its competitors, its Nexgentec (NGTC) technology saves diesel - and therefore money - in the long term, and contributes to a much lower carbon footprint.
Genesis Technologies Marine compared its NGTC solution with one of its competitors, Brand X, on a 75-meter (246-foot) motor yacht. Patrick Voorn, Synergy - The HVAC Consultancy founder and authoritative figure in the superyacht market for on-board energy saving, calculated the CO2 exhaust and diesel on a 24/7 basis.
The results were as follows:
|
Brand X |
NGTC |
NGTC Savings |
Rack space |
75 RU |
23 RU |
52 RU – 69% |
BTU / hour |
75470 BTU |
16995 BTU |
58475 BTU – 77% |
CO2 exhaust / year * |
47 tons |

37 tons – 77% |
Diesel / year * |
17914 litres |
4034 litres |
13880 litres – 77% |

AV over IP, or network-based AV solutions, are increasingly popular on superyachts today. This means that all AV sources are connected to an IP network, so that all movies, series and music are available from this network in every cabin and on each deck.
As a supplier of AV equipment, Genesis Technologies Marine has created NGTC hardware as a solution to make the installation of the whole AV system easier for the integrators and to make the user experience of the highest possible quality.
The NGTC solution uses much less hardware and more software, and the intelligence is in the software, making it different to other products. This allows complete control, greater functionality for all equipment on board and full flexibility. It was designed to work in collaboration with other yachting equipment, such as the control system, without causing any issues.
Less hardware means that superyachts require fewer spare devices on board. The NGTC hardware that is used has a much lower risk of failure because it is highly efficient; it does only what is essential.
