Heesen launches 70m M/Y Project Kometa

The launch of Heesen Yachts’ latest superyacht offering is currently underway at a ceremony held at the shipyard’s Netherlands facility in Oss, where her official name will be revealed.

At 70m LOA, and currently known as Project Kometa, this motor yacht is Heesen’s largest superyacht to date, taking the title from the multi-award winning Galatica Star, built in 2013 at 65m LOA.

With a sleek and elegant profile by Espen Oino International, Kometa is an aluminum fast displacement yacht, designed for luxurious outdoor living and entertaining.

According to Heesen, she offers the perfect combination of speed, space and style. She has 357sqm of deck space, which offers 12 different options for her guests to enjoy, with facilities for sunbathing, dining, swimming and more.

Her foredeck offers space for sunbathing and informal dining, and includes space to enjoy a movie outside in the outdoor cinema. Alternatively this area can be completely transformed to accommodate a touch-and-go helipad.

At the stern, she has a 6m swim-jet infinity swimming pool with water jet, glass-paneled bottom and spa jets for hydro-massage. Access can be gained to the sea from her 146sqm beach club, via a folding swim platform on the port side. Above this, the upper deck and sundeck combine to provide an expansive indoor/outdoor entertainment area of 92sqm, equipped with shaded sunpads, a barbecue, bar, dining and lounge area.

She accommodates up to 12 guests across her four decks, with a master suite stretching the full 11.9m beam of the boat, and one VIP cabin and four double cabins beyond.

She demonstrates advanced technology and propulsion concepts, with a Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), plus fixed-pitch propellers in a shape that Heesen states to be unlike anything seen on a yacht before.

The propulsion package was coordinated by Heesen Engineers in collaboration with Dutch hydrodynamic engineers, Van Oossanan Naval Architects, and includes a Rolls Royce central booster jet, giving her a maximum speed of 29.9 knots at 50% load, and a range of 4,000nm at 12 knots.

Project Kometa will be on display at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show in Port Hercules in September.
