Horizon Yachts has announced the appointment of two new directors to Horizon Motor Yachts Australia (HMYA), Matt Yapp and Gary Wahlstedt.
The new appointments have been announced in light of the retirement of current director Russell Wright and his wife Denise, announced last month, after eight years with the company and 40 years within the industry.
Russell said of his and Denise’s retirement, “I’m satisfied with the direction we’ve taken the company and the Horizon brand over the years, but it’s time for a new injection of ideas and energy… and time for me to enjoy the time off!”
Matt and Gary, who are both current Horizon yacht owners with a passion for the Horizon brand and products, fast became friends after meeting at The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show where they each purchased their Horizon Yachts a few years ago.
Matt owns the Horizon E88 motor yacht, White Caviar, while Gary owns the Horizon E73 motor yacht, Swell Time.
The business partnership, which arrived after news of Russell’s retirement sparked a chance conversation, begins to take effect after Matt and Gary take over operations at HMYA on 6th January 2015.
With Matt’s background in the haulage and crane business in Queensland and Gary’s background in manufacturing and residential construction, they bring new and innovative ideas to the company. Having both spent much time at the Horizon Yachts factory in Taiwan, the partners firmly believe in the quality, technology and research and development that goes into every Horizon hull.
The new appointment of the directors was officially announced by Horizon Group CEO, John Lu, during a special ceremony held 27th November at the HMYA office in Sanctuary Cove.
