ISA launches M/Y Silver Wind with a hybrid propulsion system

ISA Yachts in Italy has launched M/Y Silver Wind measuring 143ft (40m), with a tri-deck composite design that has both a traditional and a hybrid propulsion system developed by ISA and Siemens. With the two main diesels turned off, she cruises at eight knots while burning just 23 gallons of fuel per hour for a maximum range of 2,600 nautical miles — with reported noise levels similar to those aboard sailing yachts.

This is the kind of claim usually reserved for the automotive world with cars such as the Toyota Prius. For times when speed trumps fuel efficiency, the regular propulsion system includes a pair of MTU 16V4000 M93L diesel engines and Rolls-Royce Kamewa water jets that generate a maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots.

Silver Wind has an exterior design by Andrea Vallicelli and interior décor by Nuvolari & Lenard. The yacht can accommodate up to 10 guests in five staterooms and features include at-anchor stabilisers and a water-level beach club.
