This November, Highbourne Cay Marina has announced that it is excited that the private island from which it takes it namesake will welcome a unique new two-day event: The Island House Invitational Triathlon.
Held between the 6th and the 8th November, The Island House Invitational Triathalon will bring 20 of the world's best triathaletes from multiple racing backgrounds to the Bahamian island, to compete against each other against the clock. Competing over three days in individual time trials with draft-legal and non-drafting formats, the winner of the event will be the athelete who records the lowest possible time across the series of stages.
Race directors and pro triathletes, Luke McKenzie and Beth Gerdes, are promising one of the world's largest triathalon prize purses of $500,000 - a record for any event of its type in the world. Confirmed athletes already include Gwen Jorgensen, Lisa Norden, Tim Don, Ben Hoffman, Leanda Cave, Luke McKenzie, Heather Wurtele, Trevor Wurtele, Rachel Joyce, Leon Griffin, Barrett Brandon, and Lauren Brandon.
Wildcard invitations to various top long distance athletes will be made in the coming months, and a full roster will be confirmed shortly. Expected invitees include the 2015 Ironman, 70.3, and ITU World Champions.
