ISWAN launches mental health awareness training course

International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) has announced a new training course, developed to provide management-level staff both onshore and on board ships with an introduction to mental health awareness.

The one-day course is also suited to anyone seeking a better understanding of mental health at sea and how to support crew, including seafarers and those who support them. Course participants can expect to gain a better understanding of mental health and build the skills and confidence needed to recognise the signs of mental health problems and respond to concerns.

According to ISWAN, there is an increasing awareness in the maritime industry of mental health and the impact of the unique challenges faced by seafarers, which has prompted the launch of the new course.

ISWAN’s training is designed specifically to address mental health at sea; it adapts best practice for mental health awareness, early recognition and response in a seafaring context. The training is designed by a consultant clinical psychologist and is grounded in evidence and best practice in the field of mental health.

The course will take place on Monday 24^th June 2019 at INTERTANKO in London. Places are available at a one-off rate in order to introduce the course and demonstrate the benefits to companies. To book a place, please register here.
