Johnson Yachts commences work on “entry level” superyacht

Taiwanese yard Johnson Yachts has commenced work on the 21.3-metre (70-foot) Johnson 70, its first “entry level” superyacht.

Designed by Bill Dixon of Dixon Yacht Design, Johnson 70 is a customisable yacht available with a skylounge or open flybridge and in a three- or four-cabin layout.

Construction begins just a few months after the yard first shared renderings and details about the design at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2018.

The in-works flybridge will boast interiors by Design Unlimited, incorporating a mix of textures and materials to deliver a stylish and comfortable living environment.

The galley sits forward on the main deck, with large-group dining a key focus; an L-shaped sofa is situated opposite, accompanied by a large dining table and loose chairs. The main saloon social area will be equipped with a built-in chaise longue and loveseat, while wide sliding doors will offer access to the cockpit.

Owners are given the option to add a fishing cockpit, underlining the yard’s declaration that the Johnson 70 is a “truly blank canvas”.

Other on-board features include an al fresco galley complete with a grilling station for outdoor entertaining and davits for deploying the tender.

With the three- or four-cabin layout configurations available, accommodation is for a maximum of eight guests across four double en-suite cabins. The full-beam master is located amidships and comes with a desk, dressing table and large walk-in wardrobe area.

Power comes from a pair of CAT C18 1015HP engines for a top speed of 25 knots. The yacht has a 5.6-metre maximum beam.

Peter Chang, Johnson Yachts general manager, noted, “With the design and engineering of the Johnson 70 – together with Design Unlimited and Bill Dixon - we have a yacht designed to be versatile.

"We want to create a new line of yachts that sets the trend rather than follows it.”

Other superyacht projects currently under construction include its new flagship, the Johnson 115.
