Jongert complete refit of SY Tamer II

Representatives at the Jongert shipyard in Wieringwerf, Netherlands have announced that iconic sailing yacht, Tamer II has completed her 18-month refit at the facility and is on her way back to the Mediterranean in time for her owners to enjoy the summer season aboard.

As one of the largest refit projects ever undertaken by Jongert, the project saw a complete overhaul of the yacht.

Work was initially scheduled to take around 10-months to finish, but during the progress of the project, the scope of the work tripled, seeing all technical spaces emptied, sandblasted, spot-repaired, isolated, painted and equipped with brand new installations.

Further work included: a new teak deck and paint job, new standing and running rigging, overhauled and partly renewed masts and booms, installation of a new Haman system and a number of interior and exterior modifications.

Finally, the hull was also equipped with new wiring, electronic and entertainment systems, new air-conditioning, a new refrigerator and freezer system, plus an up-to-date navigation and communication system.

The shipyard announced that, despite the fact that the yacht is brand new in terms of its technical systems, it was ensured that the looks of the yacht were kept entirely original in order to match the owner’s instructions.

The new entertainment systems are cleverly hidden within the original cabinets, and all original tiles, fabrics, carpets and interior fixtures and fittings have been either reused or renewed. According to Jongert, this proved challenging as much has changed since the yacht’s creation 28-years ago. The yard was successful in sourcing the correct products and materials required as they had much of the original building information stored.

Hidde de Bruijn, project manager of the Tamer II refit said, “I am very proud of our team, our own staff, and our partnering subcontractors who have all shown major efforts. It was a challenging project and we have asked a lot of our team, but all those efforts were well worth it when you see the end result, it’s a superb team effort.”
