Largest fully custom Amels 78 superyacht launched

The largest-ever custom Amels superyacht has been launched at the Dutch yard’s hull building facility on the Danube.

The 78-metre (256-foot) superyacht hit the water for the first time yesterday (4^th December). It is now set to be transported to Amels’ outfitting yard ahead of its scheduled 2021 completion date.

The Espen Øino-designed Amels superyacht has a 2,850GT interior, which exceeds the 2,827GT interior found on the 83-metre (272-foot) Here Comes The Sun. This will make the 78m new build the largest Amels superyacht yet upon delivery.

A number of key figures attended the launch ceremony, including the owner’s team, represented by Andrew Tree of Superyacht Technical Services, exterior designer and naval architect Espen Øino, and Amels managing director Rose Damen.

Describing her as a “truly custom yacht, with stunning design both inside and out”, Tree was glowing in his appraisal of the project thus far.

He said, “This could only be achieved with the greatest collaboration, having the very best of European design and the highest quality of construction and management.

“It has been a pleasure to represent the owner throughout this prestigious build process and we look forward to her completion and delivery in 2021.”

Speaking about the yacht, Øino noted, “It's definitely a unique project and it was an intense collaboration with Amels and I think it's been an amazing journey so far since signing the contract in 2017."

Full details have not yet been disclosed, but it is known that the yacht will boast a vast array of exterior relaxation options, with a rectangular spa pool and large sunbathing area on the foredeck.

Øino has revealed the yacht will feature a “big pool on the upper deck”, while the balconies will have direct access to the cabins.
