London is Named This Summer’s 'Top Superyacht Destination'

London has beaten Monaco, the Seychelles, the Virgin Islands and every other exotic location imaginable to be named the top destination for superyachts this summer.

 

Despite the changeable weather and distinct lack of palm trees, London has been voted ‘the hottest destination of 2012’ in a league table compiled by the tourist feedback website TripAdvisor.

 

The findings are based on millions of reviews by visitors to 440 destinations, worldwide.

 

“The capital has been very much in the spotlight over the past few years, thanks to the royal wedding, Diamond Jubilee and, of course, the Olympics,” said Emma Shaw, TripAdvisor’s director.

“We’re seeing travellers experience London in an increasingly favourable way.”

Big Jubilee events include Royal Docks 2012, which is set to welcome superyachts from all around the world in less than three months' time. London will play host to superyachts which have never ventured into the city before.

To meet this demand, a number of leading superyacht companies are preparing for these special occasions. These include MGMTyacht, which is partnering with Royal Docks 2012 to provide “a full dedicated bespoke concierge service,” according to the firm.

 

“The results of this survey just confirm that London truly is the place to be for superyachts this summer,” said Mark Upton, Director of the global yacht advisory service MGMTyacht.

 

“This really will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I urge superyacht owners to act now and make sure they don't miss out.”

 

Royal Docks 2012 is meanwhile offering a limited number of exclusive superyacht berths “to provide a totally unique Olympic experience.” The berths are positioned just minutes from Central London.
