Eclipse finally eclipsed

For years Roman Abramovich’s superyacht Eclipse was the longest in the world. The rumour mill has been working overtime for months, and on 5th April Eclipse was metaphorically nudged aside by the prow of an even bigger vessel, the 180m Project Azzam.

Designed by Italian company Nauta Yacht Design, the interior is by Christophe Leoni and includes an open-plan main salon which is larger than most swimming pools, measuring 29m by 18m. It is thought that the world’s newest, largest superyacht is destined for a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family.

What is known of the superyacht’s specifications so far suggest that she has four engines (two diesel engines and two gas turbines), linked to water-jets which together produce 94,000hp and a possible top speed of 30 knots.
