Marina Port Vell (MPV), Barcelona has announced that Marcel Brekelmans will join MPV as managing director, effective from the 10th March 2014. A Dutchman, Brekelmans has spent many years as an accomplished project and managing director in the demanding business of hotel administration, with experience in branding, opening and pre-opening of properties and repositioning notable hotels on three different continents: Europe, the Middle East and Caribbean.
His diverse background and ability to communicate in five languages—Dutch, English, German, French and Spanish—make Marcel the perfect candidate to manage the intricacies of Marina Port Vell.
Uri Nachoom, vice chairman of Salamanca Group said, “To say we are lucky to have Marcel join us as the new Marina Port Vell comes fully on-line is a great understatement. The extent of Marcel’s direct experience managing some of the world’s most prestigious hotel brands makes him ideally suited to provide leadership, to develop operating budgets, to set standards for the highest level of customer relations, and, perhaps most importantly, to bring the marina and our yachting guests an unparalleled level of sophistication.”
Most recently, Brekelmans worked with HIM4Hotels/Hospitality Interim Management on projects including Roca Golf Hotel, Tinapa Hotel & Free Zone, and Hotel Rwanda, now all exquisite properties following his deft repositioning efforts. As with other ventures—Ancient Hospitality Group, Kempinski N’djamena, Le Meridien Abuja—Brekelmans excelled at providing constancy, developing and adhering to operational and finance parameters, and to bringing an entrepreneurial acumen for creative marketing.
As Marina Port Vell’s managing director, Marcel Brekelmans will further position the brand as a leader in five-star services for yachtsmen, their families and guests. He will also provide strategic planning and execution of all aspects of operations on a day-to-day basis.
