MB92 – Marina Barcelona 92 – has further strengthened its position in La Ciotat, a popular superyacht destination along France’s Côte d'Azur, by acquiring the remaining 51% of Blohm+Voss’s shipyard in the region. It previously held a 49% stake in the yard.
La Ciotat Shipyards (SEMIDEP) has approved the purchase of the Blohm+Voss base, with MB92 now the exclusive operator of the ‘La Grande Forme’ drydock and related facilities. As well as confirming the takeover, MB92 has also reiterated its commitment to working closely with Lürssen Group, the parent corporation of Blohm+Voss, across the entire company.
This latest move from MB92 follows a deal in November 2017 to acquire a majority stake in French refit specialist Compositeworks, also located in La Ciotat. MB92 will now merge Compositeworks and Blohm+Voss into one MB92 La Ciotat brand; the process will be phased over the coming months, with all facilities continuing full operation and existing staff being integrated into the new structure.
Following these developments, which positions Barcelona-based MB92 as a key player in the Mediterranean hub, the company hopes to become a big user of the upcoming 4000t platform. This is due to be completed in 2021 and La Ciotat Shipyards (SEMIDEP) will be overseeing the selection process.
