Marine Model Makers starts work on two metre superyacht model

Marine models are an important and intrinsic tool in the presentation of a new superyacht design, allowing for full multidimensional viewing of the vessel. A very skilled and accomplished modelmaking practice is required to capture the essence and uniqueness of each individual concept, bringing the dream to life.

The specialist department of Crowley Modelmakers, Marine Model Makers is devoted to the construction and presentation of precise, highly detailed, nautical models and has recently started work on one of their largest models to date. Yachting Pages spoke to Marine Model Makers to find out more about their latest project.

A commission from a private client, Marine Model Makers is currently constructing a two metre model of the owner's 80m superyacht. Ger Crowley, a professional model maker of over thirty five years and a keen sailor commented, “We expect this latest project to take at least 250 man hours to complete. At two metres in length, this model is double the size of our usual projects.

“Skilled craftsmen will authentically replicate materials familiar to the marine industry, such as hardwoods, epoxy and stainless steel to ensure a faithful reproduction and realistic finish.”

Regularly called upon by shipyard giants Heesen, M Ship Co, Oyster and Sunseeker Yachts to construct pre-build models. Marine Model Makers also constructs modern and traditional pieces for international designers, naval architects and private clients. As well as this, a number of thier pieces have been present at many of the world’s largest boat shows.

Based in Ireland, Marine Model Makers works from custom built spacious studios, which use state of the art technology, for example laser and CNC cutting, to fabricate the hulls and superstructure of the models.
