British firm Martek Marine has recently launched an anti-drone defence product designed to remove the threat drones pose to superyacht safety, security and privacy.
D-Fence is an innovative system that can detect and track drone activity within a 20-kilometre radius of a vessel. Whenever a real drone threat is established, the system triggers a 500-metre electronic exclusion zone around the boat – should an uninvited drone fly within this zone, its video and control signals will be blocked and its fail-safe mode initiated, forcing it to land or return to its operator.
Following a successful launch for D-Fence in the commercial sector, Martek Marine is now preparing to introduce the product to the superyacht industry.
In a press release, Martek Marine said the total number of drones worldwide is expected to reach 12 million by 2020, increasing a superyacht’s susceptibility to safety, security and privacy breaches.
CEO Paul Luen commented, “Drone technology offers some amazing opportunities within the luxury yacht sector but as ever, ‘bad actors’ will seek to use the technology for nefarious purposes.
“The development of D-Fence is a major breakthrough to help mitigate such threats and protect luxury yachts and their esteemed clientele.”
