McMurdo’s Smartfind S10 personal AIS Beacon Receives FCC Approval for Sale in the USA

McMurdo, a business of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO) announces that it has received type approval for its innovative Smartfind S10 Automatic Identification System (AIS) Beacon, making it available for sale throughout the USA. The type approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of Washington means the S10 is now issued with a Grant of Authorisation certificate, approving it for use in the United States.

Commenting on the approval, Global Sales Director of Orolia Ltd, Ross Wilkinson said, “The Smartfind S10 offers a major advance in MOB (Man Over Board) systems, recognising that the key to a successful recovery is the speed in which the mother vessel can be made aware of the casualty in the water. It is already making a real difference to the personal safety of mariners around the world and with this FCC certification we are delighted that consumers in the United States will now also be able to benefit from this pioneering must-have personal safety beacon.”
The Smartfind S10 is available through McMurdo’s network of international distributors and via Survitec Survival Products Inc as the exclusive distributor in the US.
Waterproof to 60 metres, the Smartfind S10 is designed to be carried by divers, boat crews, or anyone who spends time on the water for work or leisure purposes. When manually activated, the Smartfind S10 transmits both AIS and GPS data to the vessel the individual has come from, and to other AIS equipped vessels within a typical four mile radius to give precise location information to aid the recovery of persons in difficulty at sea. Bearing and distance information is accurately transmitted and displayed on the AIS receiver or plotter, giving potential rescuers all the information they require to carry out swift retrieval of an individual.
The Smartfind S10 AIS Beacon has been designed, tested and manufactured by UK-based McMurdo, using the company’s longstanding expertise in emergency location beacons.
