New J1939 Adaptor for engine and transmission information display from Offshore Systems

Offshore Systems, leading producer of NMEA2000® digital vessel monitoring products, has introduced the Offshore Systems J1939 to NMEA2000® Adaptor.

The Adaptor works smoothly behind the scenes on a vessel, enabling the critical engine and transmission messages to be sent to one or more NMEA 2000® compatible display units throughout the vessel.  The skipper or engineer can effectively monitor data from the engine’s performance, such as fuel consumption, temperature, oil pressure, engine temperature, RPM, power output and transmission temperature.

J1939 is a high-level protocol that defines how communication between nodes or electronic control units and diagnostics occur in an engine system.

The Offshore Systems Adaptor’s J1939 interface is optically isolated to prevent ground loop problems and is read-only so no messages are sent to the J1939 interface ensuring that transmission over the J1939 network will not interfere with existing engine control or status data in any way.  The Adaptor’s LED lights indicate when J1939 messages are received and when NMEA2000® messages are transmitted.

The Offshore Systems Adaptor is a cost effective product and it is compatible with either 12 or 24 Volt systems and doesn’t require any user setup menus, just the simple setting of two small rotary source and address switches so that multiple Adaptors can exist on the same networks.

The J1939 connections to the unit are made via boat builder preferred WAGO Cage Clamp terminal blocks which allow either solid or multistranded wires from 0.08 to 1.5mm² to be connected quickly and securely.

The Adaptor can be either panel mounted or din rail mounted using the din rail mounting clips provided. The unit comes with a detailed User Manual and is certified to work with NMEA2000®.

The J1939 Adaptor is the latest in a series of recent new products developed by Offshore systems to provide valuable data information and management to the consoles and bridges of yachts and boats ensuring that skippers can have full control of their onboard systems.
