New renderings emerge of Philippe Briand’s sailing yacht concept Perfect 60

London-based superyacht designer Philippe Briand has released new renderings and information about his 62.85-metre (206-foot) sailing yacht concept Perfect 60.

Speaking at a presentation held in London, Briand noted that the concept was “a special design” with “minimal hull lines” and “flush decks”. He also divulged that the yacht was designed with one or two particular owners in mind.

Interestingly he stated that he felt the sailing yacht industry had “reached a glass ceiling”.

“Now we are pushing the glass but we don’t seem to go higher – we need lateral thinking. This boat is designed with sustainability in mind with new technology,” he said, referring to Perfect 60.

The design was showcased fresh from Briand’s presentation of the 90-metre (295-foot) SY 300, which took place in April this year. He previously referred to the Perfect 60 concept as its “little sister”.

The 62.85m yacht has a beam of 10.5 metres and is the second concept from Briand’s new family of self-sufficient performance yachts.

The ketch features a carbon fibre mast and rig and same contemporary hull and inverted bow as the SY 300.

The design comes as Briand responds to the “growing trend for sailing megayachts”, which he describes as “effectively motoryachts with sails”.

However he added that the Perfect 60 would perform on the racing field and “put her owners on podiums wherever they choose to race”.

Briand said the yacht will also appeal to environmentally conscious owners and is equipped with underwater turbines capable of charging the batteries.

Accommodation on board is for up to 10 guests in the cabin and four guest cabins, which are situated aft in the yacht’s interior layout. The crew quarters is positioned forward.
