New renderings have been revealed of the proposed Port St. George marina, which will become the largest marina in the Bahamas once built.
Plans to develop the facility on the northern part of Long Island were originally announced by StarPort Resorts Inc at the end of last year. The 640-berth marina, designed by Studio Hillier, will accommodate yachts and superyachts up to 30.5 metres (100 feet) across a one-mile arc of waterfront.
Port St. George marina will be located near Stella Maris International Airport and will provide full marina services, as well as enhanced storm protection, allowing yachts to dock all year round.
It will be situated in an 882-acre luxury resort, which will include a vast array of residential properties, a five-star hotel, culinary school, yacht club and various sports facilities. The plans also incorporate the construction of a lighthouse overlooking Exuma Sound.
StarPort Resorts Inc also explained it is hunting a Blue Flag Certification for the marina. The recognised eco label is awarded to beaches and marinas that meet strict environmental criteria.
Duane Gerenser, president of the developer, earlier noted, “Our goal with Port St. George is to offer visitors and homeowners alike an environmentally and socially-conscious escape from hectic, modern-day life.”
