Yacht brokerage Ocean Independence has announced it has sold three yachts between 37 and 50 metres (121 and 164 feet) in just one day.
After a slow start to the year for the yacht sales market and challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ocean Independence is now reporting that business is picking up speed once again.
One of the largest yacht brokerage houses globally with its headquarters in Küsnacht/Switzerland, the company last week sold three yachts within 24 hours – and two of the sales were in-house, with Ocean Independence representing both the buyer and the seller.
The first yacht sold was 40.3m sailing yacht Zalmon. Lukas Stratmann and David Lunn, of the Ocean Independence team in Palma de Mallorca, represented either side of the transaction. Stratmann represented the seller of the high-performance sloop – built by Alloy Yachts in New Zealand in 2000 – while David Lunn represented the buyer.
Ocean Independence broker Yannis Mitsopoulos represented the new owner of Nyota, a 37m Couach yacht built in 2008, in the second deal of the day.
Proving that all good things come in threes, the last deal of this memorable day concluded just a few hours later with another in-house sale. Managing partner Peter Hürzeler represented the seller and senior broker Rytis Babravicius represented the buyer of 50m Rossinavi Endeavour 2, which boasts an exquisite interior by Achille Salvagni.
Ocean Independence has seen a significant increase in yacht sales in the last two months, with 12 sales completed compared to just six sales in the first five months of 2020. The company credits virtual viewings for its ability to keep momentum going while international travel was halted. This technology, combined with excellent preparation, meant that the team were ready to fast-track several sales once things started to return to a new normal.
Toby Maclaurin, sales director of Ocean Independence, commented, "Even at the beginning of the pandemic we sensed that the sales market had not really come to a standstill. There were just no sea trials and no viewings, which is why hardly any contracts were concluded.
“Fortunately, this situation has now eased somewhat, and the sales successes of our brokers speak for themselves. Of course, these sales were preceded by weeks and months of preparation - but three completions in one day is something very, very special.”
