Palma yachtie fundraises for brain operation

The superyacht industry is currently fundraising for IT specialist Gareth Pullen, a well-known crew member in the Palma superyacht scene who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Following his diagnosis, the operation Gareth needs will cost around €24,000, so he set up a fundraising website to try and raise the costs, as he is unable to work due to the illness. Crew have donated generously since the website was set up, however Gareth is still a long way from reaching his target.

He writes on the website, “Unfortunately, with my continuing issues and gradual cognitive decline over the past few years, I’ve not been earning much at all and am in no position to be able to afford this, hence the fundraiser.

“So I please ask that if you can, please donate whatever you can afford, even if it’s just a tiny amount of maybe what you would spend on a Friday or Saturday night out drinking! If you are not in a position to donate, I would really appreciate a ‘share’ and just send me some positive thoughts and energy.”

This weekend, Palma’s Corner Bar is holding a fundraising evening for Gareth, where all donations made will be matched by the business.

For more information or to make a donation, visit Gareth’s fundraising website.
