Palumbo Superyachts provides construction update on Columbus S50

Italian shipyard Palumbo Superyachts has reported that construction work on its 49.5-metre (162-foot) motor yacht project Columbus S50 is progressing on schedule, with the hull having been moved to the outfitting shed where it will now be joined to the superstructure.

The news follows on from Palumbo’s last construction update in November 2018, when it revealed that Columbus S50 was on track for a 2020 delivery – with her world premiere set to take place at the year’s Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Commissioned by a repeat client, Columbus S50 boasts interior and exterior styling by Luca Dini and features a vertical bow to increase the amount of interior space available. The saloon has been designed to allow for as much natural light as possible, while the lowered gunwhales ensure countless views out to sea.

The shipyard previously stated, “The exterior design expresses dynamism, while maintaining well-balanced proportions, conveying an original style without being over-the-top and ensuring that its aesthetic will never go out of fashion.”

A pair of 2,000hp MTU engines will allow for a top speed of 20 knots and cruising speed of 15 knots – at long-haul range.

Columbus S50 will house up to 11 guests across five cabins, while the staff accommodation is suitable for up to 11 crew members.

Further details of the new build are yet to be disclosed, with the exact layout to be revealed.

Other projects currently in progress at the Italian shipyard include the ISA Alloy 43, another Luca Dini design, due to launch in 2019.
