Perini Navi launches the first E-volution hybrid sailing yacht

Italian yard Perini Navi has launched the first 42-metre (138-foot) hybrid sailing yacht in its E-volution series. The launch took place in Viareggio, with the yard’s 25.5-metre (84-foot) hybrid-electric Eco-Tender also launched at the event.

The news comes after the yacht was sold to an Italian owner in July last year, with delivery scheduled for 2021. The second hull in the series has also been sold and is currently under construction.

The aluminium- and carbon-designed vessel features a 2,367-square-metre sailplan and carbon fibre rig. Exterior styling comes from Franco Romani, head of design for Perini Navi, with naval architecture from California-based yacht designer Reichel Pugh.

She features a hybrid propulsion system, combining the vessel’s main diesel engine and an electric motor – this, of course, explains what the ‘E’ in E-volution stands for. The combined system will allow for silent cruising and a range of 3,200 nautical miles at 10 knots.

The yacht can house up to 10 guests with a master suite aft, two guest cabins and a fourth cabin forward of the engine room. She has been designed to include an additional room, which can be used as either a cinema or fifth cabin.
