Registration filling up for Superyacht Cup Palma 2015

Since opening registration at the beginning of January, Superyacht Cup Palma has already welcomed 14 yachts to the lineup, including a mix of new participants and returning visitors.

This year, the regatta will be held on 17th to 20th June in the same central Palma location at Muelle Viejo, with race management again provided by Real Club Nautico de Palma (RCNP).

The last edition of the Cup attracted 26 entries making it the largest superyacht racing fleet in the Mediterranean during 2014.

This year will see a new rating system introduced; the Offshore Racing Council Superyacht Race (ORCsy), which handicaps widely disparate yachts such as schooners, sloops, ketches and yachts from 24m to over 80m with displacement ranging from 50 to 600 tons.

The same rating system is used at the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and the St Barth’s Bucket this March due to its scientific and transparent VPP-based system in the world.

With the rating of these kind of races posing a hugely complex task for organisers, the move to the new rating system has been strongly supported by the key players of the superyacht industry.

Kate Branagh, event race director commented, “The Superyacht Cup Palma is a great fun yet competitive regatta, it is really important to keep the fun element, everyone wants to have a good time out on the race course but we see more and more that our participants want to understand how the rating system works and that they have a fair chance to wind when they sail a great race.”

The St Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort have confirmed their on-going partnership with the regatta and will once again host the ‘Owner’s Dinner’ on the Friday evening, and sponsor the final race on Saturday 20th June.

Long-term sponsor Pantaenius will also contribute, celebrating a race day on Thursday 18th June, and will present the trophies for the class winners on their race day.

With limited allocating for berthing in the SYC Village, berths will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and so applicants are encouraged to register as possible.
