Revolutionary bi-directional superyacht could become reality

Dutch design studio, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, has revealed details and supporting renderings of its self-branded ‘revolutionary' bi-directional superyacht, Symmetry, challenging traditional yacht design as we know it.

At 180m LOA, the vessel's design is completely symmetrical, with an identically shaped and styled bow and aft on either end, allowing her to be able to sail in either direction via a wheelhouse with duel helms.

Unsurprisingly, due to her distinctive design, Symmetry also has a unique layout: Designed from the middle out, she was created by Sinot as a means to “transform traditional yacht design”, improving functionality and flow on board, as well as enhancing maneuverability.

Recently speaking with Boat International, designer Sander Sinot said, “The yacht’s layout is created by symmetrically building up from the centre, instead of using the traditional linear set up.

“Functions on the decks are organised around the central void with an intuitive logic. The symmetrical shape of the hull allows for a bi-directional course at sea, tight maneuvers and pivoting, ensuring comfortable tender transfers on the lee side of the lower deck’s mid-ship beach lounge.”

But, the bi-directional cruising capability is just one way that the concept breaks the mould: At 180m LOA, and with a beam of 29m, she offers an interior volume of more than 18,000GT. Covering such a large area, the superyacht is able to accommodate up to 34 guests in complete comfort, with a supporting crew of 48 housed to cater to their every need.

Inside, there is a large interior atrium on the hotel deck with spa, 17m swimming pool, a garden space and numerous drinking, dining and lounge areas, all encased by large windows and impressively high ceilings.

The mid-ship beach deck has a seawater pool and a float-in tender garage, while the guest deck has a glass-bottomed pool and VIP staterooms with balconies. Furthermore, there is an entire deck dedicated to the owner, with owner’s stateroom, private spa, library, skylounge and exterior lounge with infinity water feature.

The lower deck houses yet more entertainment features, with a cinema and kids’ playroom, plus there is a large exterior living space of 1,000 square metres.

Sander Sinot continued, “Symmetry reflects a genuine owner-centred philosophy of the yacht as a custom-designed private estate, moving freely over the world’s oceans, offering an abundance of space to welcome beloved ones to indulge, work, play and enjoy life.”

According to the design studio, the technical feasibility has been verified by naval architects BMT Nigel Gee, who will work to develop this revolutionary superyacht design.
