RS Global Building Specialist Refit Centre Opens Palma De Mallorca

Thursday 3rd November saw the official opening party in Palma de Mallorca of the modernised and refurbished RS Global building, which is situated in the heart of the STP (Servicios Técnicos Portuarios) superyacht refit and repair yard.

The building was taken over last year by the locally based chandlery, rigging and yacht-painting specialists Rolling Stock Group. It has always been a central building in the boatyard providing canteen facilities for workers and yacht crews, as well as some workshop and storage space in its old guise.

Now the RS Global Company have completely refurbished the building which offers a new restaurant facility called the Dock Bar, together with modern well appointed offices for up to 20 local and international superyacht refit and repair specialists.

The STP yard has had massive investment over the last few years since being taken over by its present management on a long-term concession awarded by the Balearics Port Authority.

With a number of travel lifts up to 800 ton capacity, several keel pits for sailing yachts up to 60 metres and a large number of deep water moorings, the STP yard is undoubtedly the premium superyacht repair and refit facility in the Mediterranean.

As the conditions of the STP concession only allow them to lift or moor yachts and provide mains services such as power, water and waste management, it is imperative that yacht captains and project managers have access to the full range of marine services and products on site, and that they are easily contactable on a daily basis.

The list of these marine service providers now available right next to the yachts and within the secure perimeters of the yard is indeed comprehensively impressive, and would rival any repair port in the world for its choice of specialised expertise and capability.

The list of current tenants reads as follows:

Rolling Stock Group (Yacht Painting, Chandlery, Rigging, Shore Support) / RSB Rigging Solutions (Rigging) / Astilleros de Mallorca  (Complete Shipyard Services) / e3 Systems    (Advanced Marine Electronics) / Technocraft Scaffolding  (Scaffold, covers & fittings) / Pinmar (Superyacht Refinishing) / Pendennis Shipyard.  (Technical Refit Solutions) /

Pure Superyacht Refit  (Specialist Superyacht Refit) / Metalnox (Lloyds Approved Welders) / Soft Interiors (Custom-made interiors & exteriors) / Master Yachts (Refit Management) / Palma Refit (Superyacht Furnishing Specialists) / Trappmann Consulting (Design, Carpentry, Upholstery) / Universal Nautic (Upholstery, covers and carpets) / Pendennis Shipyard (Yacht Builders & repairers) BM Composites  and of course The Dock Bar (Bar/Restaurant).

Attending the opening were invited VIP guests from the local authorities included the President of The Balearic Port Authority, Sr.Jose Maria Urrutia Mera,  the President of The Mallorca Chamber of Commerce, Sr. Juan Gual de Torrela, and Margarita Dahlberg, President of The Balearic Nautical Business Association (AENB).

Sr. Urrutia speaking for the port management commented; “Without doubt this is a major commitment for the yacht repair industry which is adding to the overall economic growth of the islands. Investing in this sector strengthens the leadership of the Port of Palma as an international destination for nautical services to superyachts and shores up their competitiveness in this part of the Mediterranean. The Balearic Islands Port Authority has long understood that this is a challenge that must encourage private initiative to provide, together, a quality product that enriches the whole Balearic society.”

Roger Horner, Group Managing Director of RS Global building tenants e3 Systems said; “We are very pleased to have moved our complete Mallorca engineering facility into one central location and we have chosen the RS Global building in STP. We, together with a large number of the other major service companies in the super yacht business, have endorsed the RS Global plan to create the ultimate collection of super yacht service companies.”

Roger concluded; “The RS Global building has been finished to a very high standard specifically to attract the top service companies who can provide every service a yacht could possibly need. All in a new shipyard that is free of shipyard fees a stone’s throw from the old, beautiful city of Palma. Where else in the Med is this available?”
