Italian superyacht shipyard Sanlorenzo has launched its new Captains’ Academy initiative to help support and educate current and potential captains, technicians and crew members of Sanlorenzo-built vessels.
The project is a collaboration with Italian training institution CISITA, with support from Confindustria La Spezia, Alfa Liguria, Municipality of La Spezia and the Port Authority, and co-funded by donations from the Region of Liguria (European Social Fund 2014-2020).
Acting as a bridge between Liguria’s technical and professional schools and companies, the Captains’ Academy aims to introduce specialised professionals with technical and practical boating skills into the world of work.
The inaugural edition of the Captains’ Academy takes place 26th to 30th November, and throughout the course students will be taught about what Sanlorenzo offers to those hoping to helm their own yachts. The group of attendees, sourced from around the world, will partake in focused workshops and seminars as part of small groups.
The ultimate aim is for the Italian firm to have a number of highly qualified captains across the globe so that owners of Sanlorenzo yachts will be able to employ staff with finely tuned knowledge bases that are capable of dealing with any potential issues as easily as possible.
Sanlorenzo has said that those taking part in the Captains’ Academy will be “immersed in shipyard life” and receive a certificate of participation after successfully completing the course.
In addition, students involved will be able to learn hospitality skills from five-star industry consultants and be trained in key skills to use on board Sanlorenzo superyachts. The Captains’ Academy also includes a range of team-building activities over the five-day course.
