Netherlands-based SMI Group has formed a new company, Swissway Marine Holland b.v., to continue production of Swissway boarding systems.
SMI Group, parent company of Dutch hydraulics specialist Hydromar Marine Equipment, has acquired the Swissway brand of yacht boarding equipment and all its assets for an undisclosed sum. Swissway Marine Holland b.v. will continue the delivery of equipment for yachts up to 30m.
Swissway S.r.l halted its activities at the end of 2017.
According to a company statement, the takeover of the brand will complete SMI’s existing business in the yachting sector by expanding its footprint and developing its portfolio towards yachts from 15 metres to 30 metres (49 foot to 98 foot).
With the co-operation of Swissway S.r.l, the assembly of Swissway boarding equipment will move from Italy to the Netherlands before the end of January 2018. Hydromar MD Rob Montijn and various other Swissway personnel will oversee general management.
The statement claims that Swissway will become the first Dutch producer of series-produced boarding equipment for yachts up to 30m.
SMI also notes that clients will benefit from the Swissway brand in the European yacht industry, namely for the “quality, communication and aftersales of Swissway based on Dutch philosophy and experience.”
Alongside its sister companies, including Hydromar, Swissway is expected to create long-term value as a strong market player for SMI.
