Yacht interior company, Sogni d’Oro, is partnering with Yacht Design Solutions (YDS) to offer a free interior consultancy service to superyachts during this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, which takes place between 23rd and 26th September.
The consultancy will be focused on ensuring when yachts go through a refit or repair; the functionality of the designs for crew working on board is taken into account, with the aims of saving time and money. The service will be aimed at captains, crew, designers, project managers and other professionals involved in the different stages of a refit or repair.
Both Agis Variani of YDS, a chief stewardess and interior design consultant, and Peter Mallard, the CEO of Sogni d’Oro, a company which offers a bespoke yacht interior shopping service, will be making appointments during this year’s show, giving their ideas of what can be improved before the refit season gets underway.
According to Sogni d’Oro, “It is very common, when talking to professionals involved in refit and repair projects, to say that the spaces and designs are amazing for the owners and charter guests to enjoy, but it is not really ideal for the crew working on board the yachts.”
Agis Variani from YDS Yacht Design Solutions explained, “My goal is to offer a consultancy service and work along designers and project managers for both new construction and refits, to help designers to take functionality into account rather than just the stunning aesthetics.
“Structures, materials, furnishings that may look perfect and ready for use may not work in the proper way, or may wear out prematurely. Or worse; they may often hinder the crew's performance and, as a result, affect the owner and guests' expectations.
“The real life on board arises from details that are not in plain sight. How spaces are used in practice, what are their functional/security/maintenance requirements, which areas are subjected to heavy use or high traffic, what needs to be stored or stowed away, how the crew and the users communicate and share facilities – these are just some of the points that should be highlighted in time.
“The fact is aesthetics and functionality can and must work hand-in-hand also on a yacht. It is all a matter of choice and integration. With the guidance of an expert on yacht interior workflows, it is easier for the designer to make the right choices on space distribution, coverings, finishes, lighting, furniture, upholstery, patterns and even appliances, dishware, artwork, linens, etc.”
