Superyacht Galapagos discusses arrival of S/Y G2 to Galapagos Islands

Sailing yacht G2 arrived at the Galapagos Islands on Wednesday (12th August) and became the first superyacht visitor since the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year.

Yacht agency Superyacht Galapagos sent us exclusive photos of the Vitters-built superyacht as it arrived and discussed the importance of its presence to everyone in the Galapagos.

Ricardo Arenas, CEO of Superyacht Galapagos, said, “Galapagos lives off tourism. When the islands closed in March due to coronavirus, tourism closed and the economy became paralysed.

“This has brutally affected the quality of life of the people who live on the island; with no tourists, tourism operators closed leaving hundreds of people with no income.”

The presence of the virus in the islands has been successfully managed, in part thanks to the natural insularity of the archipelago, but it is also for this reason, that protocols and controls are rigorous.

Galapagos has remained a natural, exotic and beautiful location, and is part of a ‘safe route’ destination in the South Pacific.

“Receiving the first superyacht after Covid-19 means a lot us,” Arenas added.

“Having a private yacht to adjust to this ‘safe route’ means that it is possible to reactivate the economy following specific guidelines that guarantees the health of both visitors and residents.

“At Superyacht Galapagos we have contributed to the construction of the entry protocols with the authorities, and have established secure and easy-to-follow procedures for the reception of the yachts, as well as contingency plans in case a client presents symptoms.

“Much merit of this visit goes to the owner of the yacht, who made the decision of visiting Galapagos, and the captain of the yacht, who has demonstrated professionalism and capacity to plan this journey and reach a safe destination in the middle of a pandemic.”

39-metre (128-foot) sailing yacht G2 was built in 2009 and last refitted in 2018.
