Superyacht sinks in Greece

A luxury motor yacht located between Mykonos’ most famous beaches, Psarou and Platis Gialos, has sunk. Whilst the yacht is still yet to be officially named, reports have suggested she is approximately 30m, and according to Boat International, speculations suggest that she could be a custom line ‘Navetta 33’.

Authorities are yet to confirm the exact reason for the incident, but information suggests the sinking began at around 5am local time on 20th August, after running aground on the reef.

According to local media, the yacht was almost fully-submerged by sunrise and contained no passengers after they were safely transferred to shore, with no injuries.

Video footage released by Mykonos LiveTV has been circulating social media, and shows the yacht sinking with several people attempting to approach it with their vessels.

So far, The Mykonos Port Authority refuses to comment or release any confirmed information, Port officials arrived on the scene this morning and have opened an investigation.

This marks the second yacht to sink in Greece this summer after multiple explosions caused a yacht to catch fire and sink in July.
