Superyachts "steaming to the UK"

Southampton has seen a huge increase in yachts coming to the UK’s south coast, according to Solent Refit.

The refit and repair shipyard in Southampton shared that it is currently one of the South’s busiest refit and repair facilities, now with at least one vessel entering and exciting the yard each week.

The first yacht out of the water at Solent Refit in 2017 is M/Y Turquoise: A 55m that is currently up for sale with Burgess Yachts and Cecil Wright & Partners.

Ashley Hurrell, business development manager at Solent Refit explained, “Launched in 2011 by Proteksan Turquoise, M/Y Turquoise was a finalist at the 2012 World Superyacht Awards. She subsequently underwent an extensive interior refit in 2014 where the attention to detail and comfort achieved led to her being shortlisted for the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. Now in with Solent Refit, she is set to be tented and have a full hull repaint and a host of refined works, so she will look and feel like the day she was launched. She is considered to be one of the finest motor yachts in her class.”

Among other recent works at the shipyard, Solent Refit has signed a number of preferred agreements for emergency response. It has also seen an increase in refit and repair work for local fast and slow-speed commercial companies, and an increase in superyacht refit enquiries.

Ashley continued, “We think the current increased activity at Solent Refit is largely down to two factors: The current Pound to Euro exchange rate, means it couldn’t be a better time to refit in the UK. Secondly, Solent Refit’s solid reputation for looking after clients pre and post-refits, flying out to the Med to carry out surveys and gaining a detailed specification to hand-over and sea trials.”
