The Crew Academy’s industry-first Purser course receives PYA accreditation

The industry’s first Purser course, a brainchild of The Crew Academy, has received official accreditation from globally recognised industry body, the Professional Yachting Association.

Following over 12 months of research and coursework development, the inaugural courses took place in October and November this year.

The three-week intensive program, which is held in a private residence in the south of France, contains nine modules followed by formal examinations and subsequent distance learning modules.

Andrew Roch, Founder of The Crew Academy said, “We have had a great response to the live-in set up of the course, and we will continue to run in this format as students can interact with one another and share experiences outside classroom hours whilst being well-catered for, thus enhancing their learning environment.”

The PYA completed an audit during the November course and the successful accreditation will be reflected on all certification both for past students and all new students moving forward.

Joey Meen, Yacht Crew Career and Training Consultant at the PYA commented, “The PYA is delighted to recommend the Purser course run by The Crew Academy.  This bespoke, high-end training will hugely benefit not only the individual crew member, but the entire yacht, with better educated, heightened and skilled personnel.  The course is a credit to both The Crew Academy and the PYA and a great reflection of where training for interior crew is now heading for the future.”

The Crew Academy was equally thrilled with the response from its inaugural students, who sang their praises at the end of the three-week experience. Ex-chief stewardess Karen McMullen said, “The live-in arrangement was fantastic, allowing for more time to focus on the course.”

Another student, Lily Lee, said of her experience “It is obvious Katrine was one of the best pursers out there.  At first you think it must be because she is an accredited accountant, but you soon realise being a Purser is so much more diverse than paper pushing; it’s about forward-thinking.  I am very satisfied with this course and excited on all the great contacts I've had the pleasure of meeting along the way.  Thank you Crew Academy."

The Crew Academy is now taking bookings for February, March and April Purser courses. Other TCA courses include Yacht Service Levels 1-3, Management, Accounting, and bespoke programs for Cigar, Wine, Champagne, Cocktail and Coffee training, which will fall under the PYA G.U.E.S.T program.
