The Latest from Dutch Yacht Designer - Guido de Groot Design

The World Superyacht Awards

The World Superyacht Awards honors the finest new super yachts, built and delivered to their owners in the past twelve months. It is a notable achievement in itself to be named as a Finalist in this, the most competitive super yacht awards in the industry.

In 2010 Guido de Groot Design has been listed as a finalist 3 times with the following yachts:

- Exterior Design: M/Y Kathleen Anne

- Interior Design: M/Y Espresso

- Exterior Design M/Y Musa

MY ESPRESSO

The designer’s task for the Espresso project was delivered by the client and included a general arrangement concept and the complete interior design including galley, crew areas and outdoor entertainment areas. The client asked for a modern interior with a very relaxed ambiance throughout the yacht without too many contrasting colors. Furthermore Guido de Groot design was asked to use light colors in order to give the interior areas a much larger appearance.

Throughout the interior areas the keynote timber is a white washed oak The oak is perfectly combined with a white washed Zebrano wood and a Walnut floor. Other finishes include a combination of lacquered, stainless steel and upholstered surfaces. For the upholstered surfaces a wide range of different leathers from Italy and the United States have been used as well as a wide range of different types of fabrics. The walnut floor has been combined with carpets from OT. Throughout the yacht daylight is filtered through the carefully selected roman blinds to cas soft shadows into the interior.

MY LUCIA M

The Lucia-M is the first motor yacht of these dimensions ever built by Jongert Shipyard. Much attention has been paid to comfort during the design of the yacht. The motor yacht line has been developed by the yard in cooperation with Guido de Groot Design at the specific request of several customers who appreciate the design of the Jongert sailing yachts but prefer a motor yacht.

SY AXONITE

Although Guido de Groot Design has already been involved in the design for sail yachts refits, such as Gitana, the 21m Axonite is the first sail powered new build designed by the studio from scratch. Axonite was built at The K&M yard in Holland with naval
architecture by Satellite Yacht Design.

This project has been very exciting and a great opportunity to design a bespoke sail yacht aligned with the specific requirements set out by the client. Axonite is a sail yacht that is designed to be used as a shorthanded, round the world vessel, and as such needs to be rugged and practical. The studio was responsible for the exterior styling and interior design.

The main salon is a fresh and modern interpretation of the functional space required in the brief. The open plan split level area creates a feeling of space and architectural interest. Her exterior design is unmistakably a Guido de Groot design, blending careful attention to detail and crisp, modern practical lines. The interior is contemporary, masculine and clean.
