Transformation support for Marina Port Vell

Marina Port Vell (MPV), Barcelona—set to become one of the world’s most elite superyacht destinations and, with phased marina completions throughout 2013, the preeminent home port in the Mediterranean—is pleased to announce that Mariano Badell, President of the Catalan Association of Merchant Navy Captains, has issued a statement regarding the transformation of Marina Port Vell.
In his support of MPV, Badell states, “Currently, large yachts have fixed their home ports in Italy and France which have a very positive impact on their local economies. Barcelona offers an ideal climate and infrastructure to yachts and it is paramount to provide berths and the high level of services that they require.”
Badell also outlined the following benefits of Marina Port Vell’s renovation and added superyacht services.
 “As sailors and seafarers, we strongly back the transformation of Marina Port Vell which will see an increase in berths available to yachts over 30m. We believe that the new marina will be highly beneficial for Barcelona maritime as well as the socio-economic impact that these yachts will have in the Barceloneta neighborhood."
 "We believe that the transformation of Marina Port Vell is a necessity to maintain the facility in good condition while ensuring that the high safety standards are adhered to."
 “The proposed amendment does not involve any port domain privatization nor will it have any impact on the safety of port waters.”
 “The planned construction of two buildings at MPV will barely have any impact on the marina landscape considering that the IMAX cinema located next to the marina is four stories high as well as is the Maremagnum shopping center.”
