UltimateBerths.com reports growing demand for exotic locations

Leading berth-booking website UltimateBerths.com has recently reported an increase in enquiries for superyachts looking for berths in the more exotic locations of Asia, Australia and the UAE.

Duncan Wilde of UltimateBerths.com reported, “Traditionally the majority of enquiries on UltimateBerths.com for superyacht berths have been for the Mediterranean. However over the past couple of years and even recently we have seen a rise in the searches/sales of berths in the UAE, Asia and Australia.

“Since 2012 searches/sales for marina berths on Ultimateberths.com has become more diverse. Traditionally the majority of enquiries for the larger marina berths has focused on the Mediterranean but more recently there has been a rise in searches for berths in more exotic locations further afield. This is due to the increase in numbers of yachts being built, putting pressure on the limited number of berths available in these traditional areas. 

“Secondly with the growth in the charter market and these guests wanting to charter boats in more exclusive/private locations which has led to the development of new bespoke marinas catering exclusively for the 30m plus market in places such as Asia and South America such as Fifth Avenue Landing Marina in San Diego. However, our data shows that the majority of enquiries in these new developments have been to rent and not to buy, where as in the traditional Mediterranean cruising grounds the enquiries to buy still out way those to rent.

“We have also seen a rise in berths being listed on the site for larger yachts in these non-traditional marinas. These marinas are offering incentives such as discounted prices, tax advantages and reciprocal rites to attract buyers.

"Overall we have seen the number of searches for berths for sale on UltimateBerths.com rise by about a third in the last 12 months and over the last 18 months that the average time that a listing remains on the site has dropped considerably which suggests that there is demand is growing in both the berth sales and rental markets.”
