Unique New 40m Modern Classic Offered for Sale

An outstanding new sailing superyacht entering the final stages of its build in Turkey is now being offered for sale at a remarkable price of €7.9 million. Just a few months away from completion it offers a new owner the opportunity to specify the fit‐out of the interior but still have a brand new yacht ready for the start of the 2013 season.

This 40m modern classic offers much more than just the ability to have a new superyacht delivered in under a year; it also presents the opportunity to acquire a luxury vessel that will not only delight its owner but one that is also capable of generating a substantial income stream.

Originally ordered by a British businessman with many years’ yachting experience and designed in the UK by David Wright Design, the brief was for a yacht that would be able to defray a large part of its annual running costs in what was recognised as a highly competitive charter market. Rather than take the fractional ownership route, the owner decided that he wanted a boat that would reflect his own tastes and personality, but which would at the same time be attractive to sociable charterers with large families or lots of friends.

With that in mind the design brief was that the yacht should be externally attractive in a classical way with plenty of deck space for relaxation and toys, while below it should be capable of accommodating up to three families in comfort with a high crew‐to‐guest ratio.

After looking at a number of design and build options the decision was to take the modern classic route, which delivers graceful and distinctive lines thereby avoiding the generic look of many modern sailing yachts of this size. The selection of a schooner rig allows a choice of manageable sail configurations while twin diesels deliver a maximum cruising speed of 13 knots for passage making on light air days.

A generous beam of nine metres comfortably accommodates six double and twin cabins, all with ensuite facilities, in the forward section of the yacht, plus four twins aft of the engine room for the crew. For any owner that wanted a spacious master suite using the full beam of the yacht, converting two of the existing cabins into one would be straightforward and still leave four for guests. A substantial deckhouse holds the saloon and dining area and flows seamlessly into the spacious cockpit area, allowing a range of entertainment and relaxation options.

Built to MCA and RINA standards and with the full range of comfort, navigation and sailing systems, the yacht is now ready to begin her final interior fit‐out, giving the purchaser the advantage of being able to specify his or her own interior style.

With increasing numbers of owners looking to charter their boats as a part of moves to control costs, it is only to be expected that the more astute will start to factor this in at the design stage. Proven attractiveness to the charter market will also improve resale values. This project demonstrates that planning for this at the earliest stages can create yachts that will delight both their owners and the accountants.
