Details of world’s first hydrogen-powered superyacht unveiled

A model of a 112-metre (367-foot) superyacht designed to run on liquid hydrogen was unveiled during the Monaco Yacht Show this year, with Business Insider publishing a detailed look at the superyacht’s specifications and renderings.

Dutch yacht-design firm, Sinot Yacht & Architecture Design, presented a detailed model of what would be the world’s first hydrogen powered superyacht, running on liquid hydrogen and fuel-cell technology whilst only emitting water.

The superyacht, named Aqua, would depend on two 28-ton vacuum-sealed tanks of liquid hydrogen stored at -423 degrees Fahrenheit. The tanks would be viewable through a glass panel at the base of a spiralling staircase at the centre of the vessel.

The team at Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design spent five months designing Aqua, who operates at a top speed of 17 knots.

As well as eco-conscious technology, the vessel would feature state-of-the-art design and amenities. Sander Sinot, lead designer at Sinot, stated “Our challenge was to implement fully operational liquid hydrogen and fuel cells in a true superyacht that is not only ground-breaking in technology but also in design and aesthetics.”

The five-deck superyacht would accommodate 14 guests and 31 crew members. Inspired by the flow of ocean swells, the exterior includes curved external lines and glass band windows. With a master pavilion, two VIP staterooms and four regular staterooms, all rooms would include floor-to-ceiling windows and would encompass a minimalistic Japanese-inspired style.

Amenities would include a cascading infinity pool and large outdoor lounging space. In addition, the superyacht would also include an expansive indoor health and wellness centre featuring a gym, a hydro-massage room, and a yoga studio.

With a number of indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces, eco-friendly Aqua also offers a formal dining area that seats 14 guests and carrying space for two 32-foot tenders and three jet skis.
