Yachting professionals join together for Cogs4Cancer

In October 2015, 24 Cogs4Cancer riders will cycle 850km from Barcelona to Antibes with the aim of raising as much money for charity as possible. Cogs4Cancer is the only aid-organisation within yachting of its kind. This community driven event is widely supported by yachting companies and individuals alike.

Having already raised over €500,000 since founding in 2013, Cogs4Cancer has already made a significant difference. This year, Cogs4Cancer has chosen four charities to support, Cancer Research UK, L’Archet Hospital in Nice, Cancer Support Group 06 and Clinique Tzanck Wellbeing.

Cogs4Cancer sets a neutral ground where superyacht businesses can come together and support each other in the same cause. Each year the number of companies supporting and sponsoring Cogs4Cancer has grown and 2015 sees industry leaders such as Burgess, Fraser Yachts, Edmiston and Y.CO unite. Two large well-known shipyards, Monaco Marine and Composite Works, have also partnered up to co-sponsor the French Tribute Ride.

Steve Crowe, founder and managing director at Yachting Pages Media Group commented, “The Cogs4Cancer event is in aid of some wonderful charities and I am both excited and proud to be a part of it for the third year running. This is set to be a terrific challenge for an amazing cause.”

OneOcean Port Vell (Marina Port Vell) in Barcelona will host the ‘Grand Depart’ on the 5th October, from there two teams of riders will cycle an average of 170km per day over five-consecutive days. The final stage, sponsored by Monaco Marine, will welcome home the peloton of riders and tribute riders across the finish line.

There are many events that form part of this year’s program including a Charity Gala Dinner on 19th September, a homecoming party on 10th October and two tribute rides with over 100 people expected to join the core twenty four, will take place on the 4th October and the 9th October. Anyone is welcome to sign up and take part in all events.

Cogs4Cancer is inspired by the story of those within the yachting industry who have been touched by cancer in one-way or another. In March 2013, a group of likeminded personalities came together to form the charity with the ethos that every single penny raised goes directly to charity and all other operational costs are covered by the riders and support team themselves.
