YPY Monaco celebrates two year anniversary

YPY Monaco recently celebrated its second anniversary along with its most successful turn out ever for one of its events. The seminar, entitled “Founders of Yachting” saw three of the industry’s most established yacht brokers talk about their experiences in the industry and share their thoughts about the future.

First established in Fort Lauderdale in 2009, Young Professionals in Yachting aims to help educate young people in the industry, improve their networking skills and promote good ethics. In May 2013, the YPY Monaco branch was launched and now has over 150 members.

For the second anniversary event, nearly one hundred members and guests were welcomed at the Yacht Club de Monaco to hear Peter Insull, Jonathan Beckett and Michael White talk about how they got into the industry, what it was like “back then” and how it has changed to what it is today.

Norma Trease, director of Salamanca Group compered the evening and ensured a range of questions were put forward to the panel.

Norma commented, “YPY is a great organisation, with a large and enthusiastic membership worldwide. Their education series is impressive, and it was a true pleasure to join with such a knowledgeable panel at their record‐breaking session 'Founders of Yachting' in Monaco.”

Lisa Peck, president of YPY Monaco remarked, “It was a great honour for us to be able to welcome such esteemed characters from our industry and hear their advice on how we can develop the yachting industry for our future. It is a clear indication of how seriously the industry is taking YPY and it was wonderful to see so many people attend the seminar, particularly as it marked our second anniversary. The association has grown incredibly over the last two years and we hope to continue providing interesting topics for our members to learn from.”

YPY Monaco holds monthly meetings on the second Thursday of every month at the Yacht Club de Monaco, with topics ranging from industry education, to personal development and networking skills. Membership is open to shore based industry professionals under the age of 40. Non‐members of any age are welcome to attend seminars for a nominal fee.

This month also saw the official launch of YPY London at the Royal Thames Yacht Club where over 50 guests attended to learn about what the association has to offer. This new branch of the association will be led by Risa Merl from Boat International and will hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of every month.
